Will the front drive shaft from a 2000 SOHC 4 door fit a 1997 four door?

    02 Expo no reverse?

I would get a used one from a wreckers. They normally don't go bad.

2000 Explorer trans slips in reverse

Okay, 100% confirmed broken band. I stuck a screwdriver up the servo hole and could move around the broken piece. SO, now I need to decided to scrap it, part it out, or sell to someone as a Mud truck. If I had time I would repair it myself just for the challenge, but no way I can do that...

2000 Explorer trans slips in reverse

I would tend to agree with you both, but would a broken band still have some spring in it? I'm not sure how much spring it should have as I've never felt a good one, but mine still seems to have some tension when I put in a screwdriver and push. Even pushing up the servo I feel the soft spring...

2000 Explorer trans slips in reverse

Yes, I think is fine, seems to be normal. I took the o-rings off the servo and it slides nicely up and down the bore. Filter looked clean when I looked in the hole. Not sure what the problem is here, but all I can do is put it back together. Too bad I tore the servo cover gasket! Have to buy...

2000 Explorer trans slips in reverse

I'm beginning to think the servo wear is normal machining for this case. If you look at the picture the bottom of the bore is not smooth, but has a slight bevel to it and the width of the wear band is not uniform around the bore. Can anyone confirm this is normal?

2000 Explorer trans slips in reverse

I decided to drop the pan and have a look. Very clean inside, and reverse servo in good shape, and was sitting flush with the bottom of the case. Took a bit of wiggling it to get it out, but when I pushed it up fluid came out of another spot, and I pulled it straight down and out. Tip of...

    02 Expo no reverse?

I can't answer that, but would be interested in hearing from others. Seems the TC should be a straight pass though of power to the drive shaft

    5R55E transmission codes

If my transmission throws a code, will that appear on the dash as an indicator light, or can the codes be silent?

    5r55e reverse not working

Likely your reverse band broken or an issue with the servo. Lots of others with same problem in the archives.

2000 Explorer trans slips in reverse

Thanks Transman; I believe you are correct. I do have 1st gear, but no engine braking in manual 1st. I have done many repairs on this truck over the years, and said I will fix anything but a major engine or transmission issue. I'm sure I could replace that band myself, but I dont have the...

2000 Explorer trans slips in reverse

Well, I feel lucky to have made it to 360,000KM, I have owned this truck for 16 years and done all my own work. I did a test ride, and have no low manual 1st gear so I guess the reverse band has let go. Too bad, as the truck is still in great shape and everything else is perfect. In...

2002 Explorer with a broken servo piston in a 5R55W transmission.

You will need a carbide bit to drill into that hard metal. (not the carbide bits for concrete) Buy them at an industrial supply house, costs about $20 but last forever.

2000 Explorer trans slips in reverse

Backed out of the garage the other day and heard a clunk/bang noise when I put it in reverse. Now I can get reverse, but slips when I give it any gas, but works with no load on it. Thinking the band let go? Or would that mean no reverse at all? Any way to check the band? Also any harm in...

    Should I buy? 2004

Okay, at this time I am going to offer $2500 for it. It is in very good shape. Rear hatch plastic panel is cracked but it seems they all do that..too bad Not much downside for $2500? FYI, I have owned my 2000 for 14 years and have done all the wrenching on it. The engine has hung together...

    Should I buy? 2004

Not sure why you say that...My 2000 4.0L have been good other than the chain primary tensioner which I believe was fixed on later years?

    Should I buy? 2004

Need some quick replies on this. Last truck I bought I did not do my research on. Found a very clean 2004 4D explorer with 4.0L engine. Only has 120,000 miles and is almost rust free. I can buy this for $3,500 CAD, and this is on the high side, but given how clean and low miles I think it...

    2000 4.0 SOHC starter replacement

Job is done and its not bad at all. Got a good used low mileage starter from a 2003 Sport for $25. It was made by Vistion, and mine was a Motorcraft. there is a good video by A1 Auto on youtube. Upper bolt is the hardest, just remove front driveshaft and move to the side while you work...

    2000 4.0 SOHC starter replacement

You have to know what your looking for. Lots of trucks have new starters and end up in the yard with other issues. A good low mileage truck, or one with a newer stater is fine. Not an original 19 year old unit...no
