I haven't installed LEDs in the other lights but I you got me thinking about the other brake lights so I checked them. Both bulbs were burned out so I'll replace them and hopefully this will solve the problem.
This is driving me crazy. My 98 XLT has a new alternator and a new battery but it still won't keep a charge. Everytime I need to drive the truck (it's a 2nd vehicle) I have to jump start it. The battery stays charged for about a day. The last time I drove it, I parked forward in my driveway...
I went back to the store and exchanged it for one that was reading 0. The sad part was there were several of them that had +/- readings.
It's the Actron CP7803 (http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16176). If anyone else is looking to buy one make sure it reads 0 or your readings...
I bought a Vacuum & Pressure Tester (Actron) from Sears. This could be a dumb question but when it's not connected to anything shouldn't it read 0?
I just took it out of the package and it reads 8 inches Hg.
Here's an update...
I really didn't feel like messing with the truck after a long day at work so I tried to cheat by disconnecting the MAF. I won't do that again. Is it just me or does the tranny read the MAF? Not only did I have all of the old problems but up shifts and down shifts were...
I have a 1998 Explorer XLT, 4X4 that has started having some problems. It idles rough, hesitates, and almost dies when coming to a stop. The problem seems to be worst when it’s cold but it’s only marginally better when it’s warm.
Here are the OBD Codes and the timeline:
P1151: Fuel & Air...
After doing some extensive searching today on here (I'm at home sick), there are a ton of posts related to this problem which almost makes the reman'd t-case seem worth the money.
Glacier991 - Did you sleeve the rear bearing bore and rebush the shift rail bore when you did the BW4405? My t-case just went out and I might end up rebuilding it myself cause reman'd ones are wicked expensive and I don't trust a used one. If you've already done this I'd love to hear your...
You got it. It's the transfer case. My mechanic called me with the news last night. When he drained the T-case he found a lot of metal shavings and bits. I suppose my options now are the same as when my trans went out.
1. Have the existing t-case rebuilt (if possible).
2. Have a used t-case...
Here the latest info:
My mechanic took it for a test drive and could replicate the whinning but not the lack of reverse. He said my transfer case sounded like a bucket of bolts so he's going to drain the fluid to see if that reveals anything.
I went ahead and called the company that...
I just had a reman'ed 5R55E installed in my 98 X back in December. I've had no trouble until today. On the way to work I heard a whinning noise so I turned around and drove back home (about 1.5 mi). I was thinking it was my serpentine belt because the whinning only occured ~1200-1500 rpm and...
Anyone ever heard of these or have experience installing/using them?
There's a company on eBay selling a 2" lift leveling kit that contains reindexed torsion key bars that fit all 1995-2006 Explorers (w/4WD).
a 2" BL won't do it, huh? The 3" kit sounds like it introduces a lot of hassle. Re-running lines and raised the fan doesn't phase me... it's the b*tching I've heard about raising the bumpers that spooks me.
I hear there are several ways to lift my ’98 XLT. I want to get enough lift to run 33” tires with plenty of clearance for wheeling. I know this can be done easily but I want to do it the right way the first time so I don’t have to keep adding parts to get the truck to perform right. In reading...
Silver X - I had the same problems with my '98 XLT. I was stuck at the decision to have it rebuilt or replace it with a reman'd trans. I chose the reman'd and I'm very happy I did. The shop I got the trans from has a ton of experience with the 5R55E and their reman process fixes a lot of the...
I'm having the same issue. I bought 2 fobs off eBay and tried to program them last night but to no avail. The only thing I see different in the TSB is that I've not been leaving the key position at Run/ACC which is probably my problem. I'll try it tonight when I get home.
Thanks for the posts. I ordered a reman'd trans from RoadMasters Transmission Services, Inc. in Schaumburg, IL. They offered a heavy duty package so I opted for it. My shop installed it in just under 6 hours and the truck shifts like a dream. The total cost (even with shipping the reman'd trans...
Count me in
My '98 XLT is bone stock but I'd like to try some of the easier trails to see how much I like wheeling. I've been a passenger before and had a blast. Now that I own a 4x4 I can't wait to get it off-road.
Who's been there before? What's it like? Will my stock X handle the level 1...
I need a new trans and I'm leaning towards a reman unit instead of a rebuild. What are the general thoughts on this? I know the 5RR5E in my '98 X has quite a few known issues which is making me shy away from a rebuild. My shop recommended a Jasper but they're too d@mn expensive! Anyone ever...
Thanks!
You guys are awesome. I'm really glad I found this site. This is my 2nd Ford truck but my first with 4WD so I'm very excited. I discovered the same day I bought it that it needs the trans rebuilt but I found a get place that really knows what they're doing. I got a great deal on the...
I just bought a 98 XLT but it didn't come with a remote or the code for the door. Where do I get a new remote and how do I figure out the door combination?
