    <BUMP> Thoughts anyone?

4 wheel low and 4 wheel drive ??

Just to follow-up on this. The shop disconnected the front driveshaft and the grinding went away indicating that it is a problem with the transfer case. They wanted nearly $900 to replace the case. No Thanks. I think I have a line on a used functioning case + shift motor. About how much...

'97 XLT Sport w/loose seat backs

I've had this issue for several years now, but haven't done anything about it. Both front seat backs have some slight play or can rock back and forth slightly when you push or pull them (or come to a hard stop). The seat base seems to be locked in tight to the floor so I don't think that's the...

Help Me With My Abs Please

LOL! Done some more browsing and found this thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=171764 There's a TSB linked in there. Since my vehicle doesn't pull one way or the other it sounds like it may be the rear sensors.

Help Me With My Abs Please

I am having a similar issue, but it doesn't happen all the time and NEVER when not braking. I cannot "turn-on" the problem, but it seems to happen when I am coming to a slow stop.

4 wheel low and 4 wheel drive ??

Cheapskate me was just trying to avoid the $90 diagnosis fee the dealership charges. But I've found one that supposedly has a good 4x4 guy. What do you think of the grinding sound that I am hearing from the front end? Seems to be really noticeable at low (0-10mph speeds), but not all the...

4 wheel low and 4 wheel drive ??

I cleaned both the sensors out as well as the motor. Still having the same issue. When I start off, I hear a grinding kind of noise and if I accelerate hard, I hear a clunking or thumping. I can cycle from 4WD Auto to 4WD High to 4WD Low and the indicator lights come on each time. However, a...

4 wheel low and 4 wheel drive ??

Easy to do? Looks like pretty tough access to the motor and sensor with the freakin' fuel tank and brackets practically right on top of it. I'll be giving it a try tomorrow morning. Thanks for the help.

4 wheel low and 4 wheel drive ??

What do use to clean the sensor out? I assume brake cleaner might be a little to severe for a sensor? :D

4 wheel low and 4 wheel drive ??

He said the code was 1780. Also, I have noticed occasionally a loud thunking (a single thunk occurs) and grinding from the front when pulling away from a stop. Which based on some browsing aroudn here sounds like the hubs?

4 wheel low and 4 wheel drive ??

I didn't think to ask about codes. At a minimum there are several leaks: 1. Trans pan gasket (this I knew about) 2. Rear speed sensor (front speed sensor does not need replacing after all) 3. Trans range sensor is "soaking wet" - Claim this may resolve vehicle not going into O/D 4...

4 wheel low and 4 wheel drive ??

Mine ('97 XLT Sport) started doing the 6 blinks last month also. Started out probably same as yours (every 10 mins) and now they blink every couple of minutes. TOok it down to the shop and they want to replace the frt/rear speed sensors and transfer case shift motor. The motor itself is going...

How to: Rebuild 4X4 Shift Motor

My '97 XLT Sport is in the shop right now becuase the 4WD and 4WD Low indicator lights flash 6 times every couple of minutes. I always run in 4WD Auto. I was informed that the transfer case shift motor needs to be replaced. They will need to order the part at $418  Basically they...
