    brake booster pushrod question?

Without a proportioning valve. The valve is located on the drivers side frame rail on these rigs. If you removed it you will need one with the proportioning valve, if you do need one that you will want to call Centric, ask for Bryan, he will be able to tell you what you need. Here is my old...

    brake booster pushrod question?

You are correct about the pushrod length but the master cylinder in the 1999 will not work in the 1st generation. The master made for the 1995, as outlined in my write-up is different than the other 2nd generation MC's, I would suggest biting the bullet and purchasing the same exact master as I...

    brake booster pushrod question?

You may have the wrong master cylinder. It may be 2nd generation but I believe there were 4 different master cylinders produced for the 2nd generation. Unfortunately all I can tell you is your best bet is getting the correct MC. I am not sure which one you have and this may make a difference...

    brake booster pushrod question?

Just to follow up. If memory serves me correctly the specs. are the same for the pushrod lengths for 1st and 2nd generation, according to Centric Parts. You can call and double check.

    disc brakes arent they great

In response to 410's comment about adjusting the pushrod length from the booster, I would highly advise against doing this, and so did the technician from Centric brakes (he had done alot of disc brake swaps, on every type of car, and what he shared with me is universal across most brake...

    disc brakes arent they great

Just to follow up and let ya'll know how the master swap went. I purchased a new master cylinder from Centric Parts #130.65044. I was told by Bryan, a technician at Centric parts to purchase a plug to bypass the ABS brake line which threads into the top of the master cylinder(my rig is a 1991...

    disc brakes arent they great

We have a Company in the NW called Olympic Brake Supply...they do ship and they have the best prices you can get. Typically they deal with Repair shops, not the general public. Paid $73.00 for the new one.

    disc brakes arent they great

jd and Others... First off, you were right, the proportioning valve is located on the drivers side frame rail. Second, the guy at Les Schwab seemed to think the 1st gen Explorer did not have an in-line proportioning valve but had one built into the Master cylinder, obviously not the case, will...

    disc brakes arent they great

Is there a Proportioning valve on the 91-94? I took my X into Les Schwab today and was told there is no proportioning valve, the master directly feeds the front and rears. Would you add the proportioning valve in-line? Thanks

    Success!!

gman...and others I did the rear-end swap to 4.10 LSD with discs (1999 donor) about a year ago. I opted to not change out the master cylinder and instead I slightly tuned the threaded rod located in the brake booster once the master is removed. After several tuning sessions I thought I had...

Even without a check engine light it can trigger a code? Not completely familiar with how the system works.

    91' Rough Idle

Hey guys hope someone out there has experienced the problem I am having and can point me in the right direction. So two weeks ago I did a minor tune up on the 91' X. Ran Seafoam through the gas and throttle body, replaced the air filter, check plugs and wires, overhauled battery, checked...

1354 worth the time to change over to a manual shift

Blackmajik...Wrong thread, search under 2nd generation explorers and I am sure you will find what you are looking for. If the transfer case is still in the vehicle than it should be pretty obvious to tell if it is a manual transfer case, the boot and shift lever will be present. If the case...

1354 worth the time to change over to a manual shift

Jason- It is definitely worth the time/money to swap out the auto for a manual 1354. When I bought my X from a junkyard the 4x4 wasn't working. Turns out the shift motor bump stop had worn out, happens to all of them, and after trying to rebuild the thing 3 times I could never get it to work...

Does Front Diff Turn when not in 4x4

I am not a bid fan of the beam design, it makes it very hard to repair/swap/or seal the differential. I actually notched my radius arm to allow for the carrier bolt to be removed without removing the radius arm, but even after doing that, it was very difficult to get the carrier out, so I opted...

Does Front Diff Turn when not in 4x4

Thanks for the quick reply. I though this was the case but wanted to be sure. I have done alot of work to this rig and have yet to swap out the auto hubs for manual ones, need to do this, that would insure me from rolling around with my front diff engaged, and also save me from a blown up hub...

Does Front Diff Turn when not in 4x4

I have a really stupid question and am 99% sure I know the answer but I need to be 100% because the front diff is leaking fluid. I recently undertook the task if swapping out the rear end of my 92 explorer (Had open 3.55) with one from a 01'...disc brakes 4.10 LSD , etc. I was able to hunt...

Rear Axle Swap...What model years work?

I am in the process of assembling the necessary parts to perform a rear axle swap (carrier to follow) and need to know what generation of vehicles will work for the swap. I have a 1991 XLT with 3.55's and am looking ot move down to 4.10's with a LSD and disc brakes (more stopping power...

am I getting in over my head?

Have you found the shifter yet for the manual t-case. I did an auto to manual converison last year after my shifter motor went AWOL (took it apart and found the bushing in pieces and opted to go manual) It took me several weeks to find the shifter linkage and boot, I searched high and low at...

    Herculiner

Did a similar treatment to my 1991 XLT last summer, it came out great and am very happy with it. Main reason for oding it was to prevent the rockers from rusting out which is a common problem for the X. Will post pics when I get a chance. I will say that I did have to touch it up a bit this...

Snap-ring wont fit on spindle...need help!!

Derocha- That is good to know, if it ever needs to be replaced. 410- I think you hit the nail on the head, when I started the reassembly last night, I had the plastic washer off at one point to clean the rubber axle seal, I must have put it on backwards when I reassembled...damn shame, I...

Snap-ring wont fit on spindle...need help!!

Derocha- Thanks for the reply, tonight when I get home I am going to try and retackle this problem. I think I am going to break it back down to the stub shaft, pull it out, and check the seal, I have a funny suspicion that the seal may be the culprit, because I am fairly certain everything else...

Snap-ring wont fit on spindle...need help!!

I am putting the X back together after replacing U-joints, ball joints, inner/outer tie rods. Camber Bushing Kit...what angle is stock replacement??

Thanks for the replies, I am not very familiar with the dynamics of what is involved with an algnment and was not aware that these camber adjusting sleeves may be replaced at some point with something other than what comes from the factory. The sleeves that were in the vehicle were pretty dang...
