    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Never thought the day would come but she’s gone to a new home. Drove it to King of the Hammers and played around there for a few days, then let the new owner drive it home to Phoenix. I wasn’t even expecting to sell it this weekend but the timing and everything made too much sense to pass up...

    1994 explorer prerunner builld!

You can relocate the shackle pivot in the frame and use longer shackles to minimize the negative arch. I did that years ago and am using 12" shackles. But sounds like you're already pretty set on linking it in the future anyway so that may be more work than you want to do for leafs.

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

It actually rides really nicely on the road aside from being really loud. I aligned it myself though so it could use some improvement in that department.

I have a lot of parts and stuff to go with it too including the Currie F9 axle and 3rd member and rear 3-link stuff.

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

I'm honestly not sure. 12k? Prices of prerunners and desert trucks are pretty inflated right now but this thing is also not perfect and I'm not going to hide anything about its condition. You can message me if you're seriously interested. I'd like for it to go to someone who will appreciate it...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Anyone want to buy this thing? I thought I'd keep it forever but I'm coming to terms with the fact that I just don't have the motivation and time needed to get it where I really want it, and other than a smog check earlier this year it's basically sat the entire year anyway.

I've heard of that happening before with fiberglass. How companies continue to do it though, I don't understand. What did they say?

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Felt an urge to get out of town for a night and hit the trail so I went up to Corral Hollow off highway 4. It was difficult to do but I was at least able to shift into 4low with the modified shifter. Still don’t know why it takes so much force though. Otherwise an easy, problem free trip. It’s...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Felt like being productive this weekend, but didn’t feel like working on anything of actual importance, so I finished welding the trailing arms. I mig welded the majority of them a few years ago but I didn’t have the small pieces of 2” for the bungs at the time, so it was just the bungs and then...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Finally figured it out, thanks! I had studied that plastic adjuster on the bracket earlier but couldn't figure out how it worked. The white locking part was very difficult to move. So after adjusting that and the little wheel for the indicator below the steering column, everything is aligned...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Ok so I need some confirmation from someone. 410, I feel like you probably are pretty familiar with this. I dropped the steering column and the shifter bushings are actually intact and don’t seem very sloppy. I think my problem is with the metal “gate” bracket the shifter engages with. It’s hard...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

My modification to the t-case shifter. I added material on the back of the notch to kick the knob forward, and I found a better fitting bolt and nut to attach to the shift linkage. And this is the shift knob I got. The adapter it came with fits perfectly over the splines on the shifter and has...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Shifter Issues Galore! Had a chance to dive into the transfer case shifting issue this weekend; the most time I've spent working on this thing in probably a couple of years. Removed the center console and pulled the carpet back, and I opened up the cutout in the floor around the shift lever...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Also it's been almost impossible to get the t-case into 4 low recently. How easy/hard should it be with the manual shifter? I pull on it with all my strength and sometimes can't get it. It's never been easy in the 5 or 6 years since I installed it but seems like it's getting worse.

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Nope I still haven't linked it, but funny you ask that because I was just thinking about it again recently. Truck's still kicking though and I've been able to take it on a few short trips recently. I've been busy and spending any extra money I have on a 97 year old house I bought a couple of...

    Cheaper Alternatives to TMH

True yours is an Explorer and mine's a Mountaineer, but last time I smogged it the shop said I needed a sticker from Torque Monster with all the pertinent info in order to be legal. Sounds like that would have been the case for an Explorer too. My point is, just be prepared to fight...

    Cheaper Alternatives to TMH

@Fix4Dirt Another thing to consider since you're in California is smog, which I'm guessing you have considered, but thought I'd mention it. I've had to sweet talk pretty much every smog shop I've gone to since I installed mine 10-11 years ago. I've never been failed but some shops have wanted...

    Travis' 94 - The Culmination!

I've considered one of those fuel tanks too but never knew anyone who ran one. I'm often cutting it close on fuel on trips I do even with a 5 gallon jerry can. Would you recommend it for a go-fast desert truck? Does it seem like it will hold up to the abuse?

Funny you mentioned the sway bar, because I noticed it too and had no idea until now that the early 2nd gens had the sway bar mounted to the front of the crossmember vs. the bottom of the frame rails forward of the crossmember. When I had A-arms still I got rid of the sway bar and loved how...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

This thing had been just sitting collecting spider webs and housing a rodent under the hood since the last trip, so I spent some time with a pressure washer, a torch (my favorite method of spider and web abatement) and removed a couple hundred acorns from all over the engine bay to get it ready...

    410Custom's builds a 2007 Ranger V8 - custom truck build - Project "Ranger Premier"

Agreed, my sliders were not even that close to the seam and just driving on the street the body moved enough to slam into the sliders and make horrifically loud noises. Also because the body moves so much on the flexible body mounts, don’t tie the sliders into the body. The sheet metal will just...

    410Custom's builds a 2007 Ranger V8 - custom truck build - Project "Ranger Premier"

Haven't checked in here in a while. Looks like a cool project! I remember seeing a ranger on another forum with a Dixon Bros LT kit and Superlift kit combo and thought it looked great with the extra height. Is there a reason you went with the emulsion front shock instead of remote reservoir...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Sold the mastercrafts and put the stock seats back in, and then went on a 700ish mile trip and I'm so glad I did! I have so much more head room with the stock seats and they're just so comfortable, I never got tired or uncomfortable. Eventually will get them reupholstered. Anyway, spent the...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

I did think about the possibility of trapping heat with the skid plate but wanted to give it a shot anyway. I've always been a little nervous about how low the transmission pan is when I'm in bigger rocks. Adding holes to the skid plate could be done if it's an issue. I do have a gauge, and...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Finally got the passenger seat in and the harness lap belts installed. I haven’t done the crotch belts yet but not sure that I even will. These seats definitely sit up higher than the stock ones. I’m short and I have the seat all the way down, but with the stock one I had it raised up quite a...

    Mounty71's 4x4 Long Travel Build

Been a little while and haven’t really driven this thing much since the last trip in august. I did go on a day trip to Pismo the weekend it opened back up but that’s about it. The hatch window hinges broke on me for a second time so I decided to make use of actual hardware instead of the...

Three Aussie Mechanics cannot repair the axle seals- Unable to remove C clips in rear 8.8 Diff

After the rotor is off the axle flange, I use a C-clamp over the axle flange and brake caliper mounts to pull the shaft in as far as possible. Then use a magnet to get the C-clip off in the diff.

    Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread

If you're worried about the ring gear bolts staying in place, since you need to replace them anyway, you could try safety wire bolts so they can't back out again.
