Can you use a torque wrench to move the tensioner and remove the belt? This would tell you how much pressure it takes to move it. If I could get a few others to do the same, we could take an average and then possible know if the spring in the tensioner is applying the correct amount of pressure...

Please don't take this the wrong way, but can we get back to the question at hand? I know I started all of this by referring to it as freon, but I'm still hoping someone can help me in determining how much oil I need to add...thanks.!

I have a leak in my 97 Explorer's A/C system. Since I haven't found it yet, I keep having to add freon. My question is, if I'm losing the R134a, then aren't I also losing the oil? And if so, how do I know how much I need to add?

The compressor cycles because it's low on freon. There's a sensor to tell the compressor to turn off if the freon is low so it won't burn out the compressor. I have a slow leak in mine and that's my signal that I need to refill it. I really need to get it down to the shop and see where the leak...
