1994 Limited 3 fuel pumps in 4 months.......... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A little hint on changing fuel pumps. Most can be accessed by pulling back the carpet and using a pair of tin snips to cut a nice round right above the fuel pump and can reduce the time to change one out to about 10 minutes. I'd check the voltage at the pump, your voltage regulator could be...

    Looking to get 250 - 300hp help?

215 hp sounds just about right considering the tiny cam and the restriceted exhaust on the X. I think 250 hp would be rather easy to obtain. I made 322 to the wheels with the GT40P heads on my 1990 Mustang, granted that is with a much different setup. Here is what I would suggest - Stage I...

    BBK 75m TB

Save your money and put it elsewhere. Even if you got it for free it would still hurt performance. 1 - The opening on your Explorer intake is 70mm, which makes it a mismatch. 2 - Even if you ported the intake to match the 75mm, you would loose low rpm air velocity and cylinder fill would...

Need more Off the Line speed...how?

I'm not big on the selection of 4.0L superchargers out there but if it s a centrifugal then it probably won't help much on the bottom end. A roots style or twin screw type supercharger will do wonders for your bottom end though. You could always save a ton of money and just go with torque...

rattling noise from engine when under load

What your hearing is detonation. Its a sawtooth waveform that forms in front of the ignition/cumbustion front. There are lots of variables that cause detonation i.e. compression, timing, a/f ratio, intake temperature. Higher octane gasoline will help by giving your engine more resistance to...

Something you know and I don't

Actually, since the the ECM will compensate with more fuel and a denser charge from the colder air you will make more power. Thats the whole idea. You will then accelerate faster or let off the throttle more. When you let off the throttle and maintain a constant speed you will get Better MPG...

Disapearing coolant - no leak, no white smoke?

Cam bearings will probably wipe out by then. They really don't take well to water in the oil (milkshake).

Disapearing coolant - no leak, no white smoke?

Couple of things here. If it is a blown head gasket or cracked head, here is a way to methodically track it down: -You will have small bubbles in the radiator when it is warmed up, kind of like a froth. -The coolant will be contaminated by exhaust gasses which can be detected by a simple...

How strong is AWD on the 5.0?

I've done a 3500 rpm gear drop in a parking lot. The weak link was traction. Now 5300 rpm on a sticky track should yield different results.

How strong is AWD on the 5.0?

True, I'm sure many of us live by the words - Drive it like you stole it.

How strong is AWD on the 5.0?

I'll try my best to break something this weekend then. I can't believe no one here hasn't broke anything on the drivetrain in the 5.0.

How strong is AWD on the 5.0?

I plan on making some passes down the 1/4 mile this weekend and if things go as planned I should drop the 347 I have in the X within the next month or two. Then more drag racing. What I'm getting at is how long will the AWD be able to take some hard, hard launches? What will break first? Who...

    Anyone put a 331 or 347 stroker in their X ???

I need to know as well. I have a 347 with a 28 oz balancer and a 28 ounce balanced flexplate waiting to go in. From what I understand the distributorless ignition gets its trigger signal from the crank which means I cant use my SFI 28oz balncer. Now I dont know what to do. Maybe I'll just buy...

    Another exhaust question...

I fill the backseat with kids, the fumes never make their way up to the drivers seat that way.

    Another exhaust question...

Your talking about turndowns/dumps. I just had two 40 series with dumps put on my 5.0 Limited X. Its no where as near as loud as I thought it would be and not even close to my 90 Mustang. Just a nice low rumble. Either the H pipe is extremely restrictive or the Explorer interior has lots of...

    2 gen. 5.0 sport

Mike, you may be right on that point. Its been out of the loop for a few years on 302's but I thought that the HO was the only roller motor. For some reason i remember looking for a useable block for my stang and I thought that that the block had to be a roller motor. Anywho, if they are all...

    2 gen. 5.0 sport

I'm hoping that you are aware that the non HO motor does not allow for a hydraulic roller cam. There may be a conversion kit to allow it to run a B303 cam. Remember, the B303 has more duration and possibly overlap that will hurt bottom end performance.

Twin Turbo is it a good idea?

For about 5k or less you can build a very nice 347 and not have to sacrifice any of the above mentioned(ac, cruise, etc), You'll have a bucket load of bottom end and if you do it right you make just as much if not more than a stock 302 with twin turbos. Plus if you throw a twin turbo system on...

My quest for 30 MPG - Ford Explorer Gas Mileage Tips

Since reading this post I have been watching my mpg more closely to see what my 98 5.0 AWD can do I can average between 20 mpg with about 70% highway 30% city. Wuith nothing but highway driving I can get about 24-25 mpg. Here are my mods so far -Apten chip always in 93 octane program but I...

    New 5.0L Headers are HERE!

Stock fuel pump is 180 lph! Woohoo thats one less thing I'll have to change when I drop the 347 in next month. I can't believe they put a measly 88lph in the GT's. Anywho, you may want to check your FP regulator or throw a gauge on there and see if it drops in the upper rpms.

    New 5.0L Headers are HERE!

I hope you haven't been running with this A/F ratio for too long. If it has been like this for a while I would find it hard to believe that your exhaust valves, head gasket and possibly pistons haven't suffered severely from detonation. You have got to have some extrememly high exhaust temps...

    New 5.0L Headers are HERE!

I like the answers to 3&4. You may have the right preload on the lifters. I cant tell for sure. I had my motor on my Mustang torn town about once a week for a year and I used to know exactly how to get .060 of preload, but that was a few years ago and I cant remember to save my life right...

    New 5.0L Headers are HERE!

Couple questions to help find out what is wrong with your combo: 1- what was your A/F ratio across the board? 2- How did you set the preload on your lifters when you installed the RR's 3- Is the cam installed straight up? 4- Last resort would be to run a compression and leak down test

    tranny slipping

All automatic trannies slip like hell when they are real low on tranny fluid. I just put 4 quarts in my mother in laws F150 and now it dowsn't slip a bit. BTW if it is low on fluid I'd change the old fluid, filter and gasket. Good luck.

    Engine upgrade

You need torque multiplication. Thats exactly what you lost when you went with bigger tires. Torque at the drive axle = (torque of the engine) * (transmission gear ratio) * (rear end gear ratio). Say you have an engine that make 300 ft/lbs of torque @ 4000 rpm, a first gear ratio of 2.95 and a...
