I would like to get a 50 series put on my '94 and I thought that rather than make a dual exhaust or fret about what tip to put on the pipe sticking out the side that I would just put a short piece of pipe on bending down and pointing it straight to the ground. This would eliminate a little bit of length of pipe but is it legal? Is it stupid? I kinda like the idea of not seeing any exhaust pieces just hearing it.

I don't know much about the laws in PA. but around here, they wont even test the emissions if it doesn't exit from under the vehicle. I would also be very afraid of the fumes.

Your talking about turndowns/dumps. I just had two 40 series with dumps put on my 5.0 Limited X. Its no where as near as loud as I thought it would be and not even close to my 90 Mustang. Just a nice low rumble. Either the H pipe is extremely restrictive or the Explorer interior has lots of sound deadener in it.

As far as legal, I doubt that they will test your vehicle like that. I am going to buy some flexible tubing and install it right before I have it tested.

What about the fumes situation? Mine is a two door, would that be safer?

Btw, I'm not too worried about how it sounds, I just thought it would be cool to not see the exhaust (how's that for some backwards thinking?). As long as she has some nice low rumble I'll be happy.

I fill the backseat with kids, the fumes never make their way up to the drivers seat that way.

Well I haven't done it but, a lot of people on this site have been talking about the 40 series flowmaster giving a good low sound. I still think you would be better off running to the rear most part of the truck and doing a 45 degree turn down just behind the bumper. Then mabey you could have the best of both worlds, not be able to see the tip and not have the fumes creeping up into the passenger area.

...mmmm, I'll probably just do the kids thing. It'll probably be more expensive but it sounds safer for me and I get to keep the look I'm going for.
