If you switch to a synthetic in a high milage engine you may be setting yourself up for oil leaks.

I'm at 115k miles now and still rattling away. The truck has rattled ever since I bought it with 80k miles.

I've heard the same thing from the Ford dealer about it being normal but never heard about the synthetic oil thing. I am a little leary to switch to synthetic at 115k miles.

Yes, that crossed my mind (80K on mine now, no leakage).

Is your feeling that due to the high detergent property of synthetic oil it's apt to dissolve good deposits around some of the seals, or is it otherwise?
