'00 xlt starting problem

The vehicle won't start unless I start to pump the gas. As soon as I stop pumping the gas the engine dies. Can this be a clogged fuel filter or a bad pump going out, or could this be something else? Searched useful threads and was unable to find anything simular.

Fixed it. As you can all see I don't know much about cars and I was hoping that no one would laugh at me but as it turned out all I had to do was reset the fuel cut off switch. I guess somebody bumped into me or something because once I did that the car starts up fine now. Geez!
