I did the 00M12 repair today on my 2000 Explorer sport. I was having all the symptoms associated with the 00M12(rough idle, rattling). After the repair was complete, the vehicle started fine and ran for about 2-3 mins. The idle was back to normal, and all was well. Then it suddenly died. When I try to restart it, it just cranks but will not turn over. (Fuel pump turns on, battery reads 12.5V) All of the vacuum hoses are properly connected, all of the gaskets are properly seated. I've gone over all the parts affected by the repair a dozen times, and everything is in place. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Did it make a strange sound when it stoped? Maybe the chain skipped a cog, did you have it done at a dealer, if so it’s there problem now.

Did you have to disconnect the fuel injector harness to remove the manifold? If so, check the electrical connector very carefully to make sure it is plugged in and making contact.

also change your oil, you know u have to change your oil after a lower intake manifold gasket change right? do that immediatly and also cycle the key and make sure everything is connected back the right way, i mean electrical.

Ok, thanks for your help so far. I appreciate your suggestions. As of today, the truck is still out of comission and now it is showing signs leaning towards an electrical issue. It just gives a continuous clicking when try and start it, similar to a dead battery. I tested the battery and it tested fine, but the battery was old, so I replaced it anyway and there is still just the clicking when I try and start it. All of the electrical connections from the 00M12 are in place, I've gone over them a dozen times. I didn't have to remove the fuel rail during the repair either (from a reply above). At this point, I'm wondering if something unrelated coincidentally gave out during the repair like the battery cables. I've seen multiple posts listing the factory originals as a problem. Thanks again for all of your suggestions!

I can really think of anything else, but it is usually something simple.

I would check to make sure there is fuel in the fuel rail (i.e. you didn't run out of gas - don't take this as an insult, it is just that I'm not there so I'm stating the obvious).

Also, I would test for spark.

Try starting by bypassing the starter relay to rule that out.

And I would remove the battery cables for a few minutes to reset the computer (it can't hurt)

I had a problem with my 2001 explorer where it would idle ruff and not start without holding the gas down. I had to replace the Intake air control that sits on top of the upper manifold. Problem solved.

Don't worry, I'm not taking any of the simple things as an insult! You are right, most times it is something very simple. It never occurred to me to test the brand new battery, I assumed it would be a good one...went back to the simple things and tested it, it's reading just over 8V right now. So I'm going to return that and get a new one. I'll update you all from there. THANKS!

Battery issue is fixed. When I try and start it, the vehicle tries really hard to turn over but it just sounds like there is no oil in the engine. I'm concerned that it may be a bigger problem within the engine and I may end up taking it to the dealer. I think the CEL may have a new code for me, so maybe I'll check on that tomorrow. I'm just having a hard time believing that this non-starting problem is related to the 00M12 repair I did. Is it possible that the timing chain may be messed up from installing the new tensioner? Obviously the engine wouldn't do much without a functioning chain...
