So Im new here did a quick search and did not really find a answer to my question, here goes I'm putting a 4406 in because I would like true 4x4 for my dirt adventures and 2wd on the pavement seeing as I live in the middle of the God forsaken desert snow is of no concern to me, my question is how much room needs to be made by beating the body in for the tcase and what 2 tabs need to be cut off the tcase.

I have seen a few pics as to where to hit with a BFH but not how much and no pics on what 2 tabs to cut off.

Thanks in advance for any and all help

If I remember right, it doesn't need a lot of extra clearance. Maybe an inch or two.. If that. It can vary from vehicle to vehicle. If you have a body lift you won't need any extra clearance at all. I think the tabs are cut or clearanced to make room for the skid plate. I didn't cut them til I was ready to mount the skid plate and could see where it needed extra room.

The tabs are directly on top of the T Case and will hit the floor if you don't have a body lift. I already cut mine off in the picture below, see the two shiny or clean spots on top....that was the tabs.

Some people cut the ones off that are on the left side for frame clearance, I did not have to.

The floor just needs a few dead blow hits. You are basically just flattening out 2 places where the floor dips down.

This pic shows the spots better.

Thank you for the help and pictures I bought this truck with a bad front wheel bearing fixed that it was only 80 some dollars. got it mobile again and the front drive shaft is toast but that is like almost 400 at local parts house so I was like to hell with it and here we are knee deep in a t case swap

LOL Well if that's why you're doing the swap, I'd have sold you a front driveshaft for 1/4th of what the parts store was asking.. But I think you'll like the 4406 better anyway, good luck with the swap!

Thanks nah not the entire reason lol I do want 4 low but I have a t case, front and rear drive shaft for just a hair over 400. The only thing I have to wait for is linkage and shifter but I'm getting that free

What I did was before denting the floor I tried to stick the 4406 in and this left slight scuff marks on the floor to show me where to bash it.

It only took a few hits with my dead blow to get enough clearance.

I was going to say that I clearanced the floor after I installed the tcase. It was harder but showed me right where to bash! You will love the swap!!
!!

I clearanced it with a 4 lb mini sledge, didn't need to grind anything off the tcase. I dont have a body lift but I have shackles and torsion twist.

Thanks guys for all the help, yeah I can't wait to see this thing in action after the swap and tires and plasti dip paint lol and light bars lots and lots of light bars lol l.

Just thought I'd update so I'm on vacation and am just about done with the install here are some things to consider doing, 1 drop gas tank I fiddle F'ed around with not dropping it... total waste of time just drop it, 2 on mine i had to cut fuel tank bracket to fit t-case about a half inch needed to be cut, 3 keep kids away not only is the truck suspended by jack/jack stands but you will have invented a colorful new language by the time you get done an trust me you and your 4 year old will be fluent in it lol.

If anyone is attempting this and needs any help by all means I'm no expert but am willing to help answer as much as I can. Again thanks to everyone for the help and pics

I agree with your number one and I thought number two was a known thing. Number three just can't be helped sometimes.

Glad your about done, your going to love it!

Well as far as #2 I knew it needed a good whack with the BFH but did not know it needed to be cut but now I know lol

Yeah, It seemed on the threads I seen that you just bend it and your good.

Mine just needed cut and rewelded to be clean and strong.
