I have a 2001 Explorer Sport with an OBD code of insufficient EGR Flow. I have tried cleaning the EGR valve and blowing out the vacuum lines, but the check engine light keeps coming back on. I was told that there is a EGR Flow sensor(might be called something else) that goes bad on the Explorers. Has anyone heard of this? And if so, what is it actually called so I can get one from the dealership. I called the dealership and the parts guy didn't know what I was talking about. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yep, it is the DPFE. They do go bad, and throw the insufficient/excessive EGR codes.

I forget what exactly DPFE is. It is Differential Pressure Feedback EGR or something.

If you see where those two hoses are coming off of the EGR Tube, they lead to the DPFE if you wanted to remove it and just go by part number.

Good Luck

Thanks. I will give this a try.

Hi 01XPLRN:

Robb's right. Mine just went bad about a month ago. The DPFE just plugs into two rubber lines on the driver side valve cover, right next to the EGR valve. It takes about 30 seconds to swap it out. I think mine cost about $20 at the dealer.

Regards,
John.

Thanks guys. I replaced it yesterday and cleared the code. And at this point the light hasn't come back on. I feel much better driving without the light on. Thanks again.
