I am new to this forum so i thought it would introduce myself
my name is Russ
i own a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with 205,000 Miles
i have only had to replace minor cosmetic things
i have just recently replaced spark plugs, air filter, wires, fuel filter
this is a daily driver it is my family Cruck as its called lol
but recently in the past two years i have been having issues with it
such as
In summer where it stays between 78-110 degrees with 60%+ Humdity cause i am in South carolina
the truck runs fine but when the ambient temperature gets above 90 deg (verified by overhead console which is +/- 4 or 5 deg F)
and running AC going down the road or at idle my trucks starts stuttering like it lost all its power.
I pull over and let off the gas engine comes back alive with a high to low very rough idle in or out of gear
I go to Pull off and hit the gas truck feels like it missing really bad and has no power sounds like it backfiring through the plenum
I cut the truck off for about an hour during our hottest part of the day and let it cool then start it up and it drives fine no power loss ect but as soon as it starts getting hot again it starts all over again until it cools down below 80 deg F and the problems almost completley stop
except for ...
when i turn left or right from a stop (this is very random i cant get it to do it every time) but the engine dies for a second and then immediatly comes back to life and i go about my business
my check engine light is on i have read the codes (Bank 1 and or 2 LEAN)
i have new O2 sensers in truck
so idk what is causing this
also today since the problems are getting worse i checked the fuel pressure the truck idles with about 45psi fuel pressure but the needle jumps around the 45 like its on crack
i give it gas and it drops to about 30 still jumping around like it is on crack
i cut the truck off and the fuel pressure jumps to almost 55psi and stays
i have no freaking idea what is causing this
it has never overheated or anything regular oil changes ect
somebody please help me figure out what is going on
Thanks
Russ

Russ, it sounds like you need a new fuel pump - I have had 2 Mustangs that had the in-tank pump go bad wit symptoms just like you're describing, and I suspect the one in my '01 trac is on the way out as well - look for the 1st gen Sport Trac forums here on this site.
