01 sport 4x4 problems

Well I just picked up an 01 explorer sport since i need something to get around the bad weather in. It's snowing today so for the first time i put it in 4x4high.

After driving for a minute the 4x4 light kept clicking on and off at random intervals and never stopped.

Any Ideas whats wrong??

this means that there is a fault in the 4x4 system check for any frayed wires and the condition of the fluid

Yes, when the 4wd lights flash it means that the GEM (generic electronic module - aka computer) has detected a fault. If you have access to a scan tool with GEM scanning capability, you can retrieve the DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) that will tell you what the computer thinks the problem is.

Several people have reported that cleaning the driveshaft speed sensors have solved their problem.
