I have a stock 01 xlt whit a problem . When i start it ,it cuts out,stalls. I have a new fuel filter and fuel pump installed and it worked for a week the back to cutting out. It happens on start up, and if you dont keep your foot on the gas, any slowing of the trk. for a stop light or stop sign the vehicle dies........ NEED HELP ASAP !!!!!!!!!!! ducrnd@yahoo.com
Check your Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. Try giving it a good cleaning with some Throttle Body cleaner and see if that helps. The cleaning didn't help mine (had to replace), but there are many on this forum for whom it has worked. The IAC valves are frequently the cause of drivability problems with Explorers and are always a good place to start with when diagnosing. Good luck!
