02’mountaineer mode control actuator location

I am the second owner of an 02 mountaineer(rip mom). I believe the mode control is vacuum actuated to change the airflow from vents to defrost. I cannot change mine from vents to defrost. Does the mode control module fail or is It most likely a broken or cracked vacuum line. Thanks for any replies and help as I am going to give this car to my daughter and want to make sure that the defroster and vents work properly
 






Sorry I can't directly help you as I've had few issues in that department. But if you remove the glove box, it's pretty easy to see inside the area behind the dash. You can manipulate the controls and see what happens. At least, it's easy on the Explorer, I should add. I'm not sure about the Mountaineers.
 






It is vacuum operated. I have an 02 and read about this condition but don't remember the fix. So here are some threads about it..
