When im driving down the road and floor it the 4x4 is engaging and disengaging repeatedly for no reason on a dry road.
IF i take off in the winter (and snow is on the ground) from a light the 4 wheel does the same thing UNLESS i floor it and it stays engaged.

But now that it is summer and if i ever need to put the hammer down its doing it and cannot be good for the drive line.

I have found out that while it is "engaging and disengaging" if i push the 4x4 hi button and put it right in 4 wheel the feeling or sensation of the 4 wheel engaging and disengaging stops..

Now I'am leaning towards the problem to be the computer..
was wondering on everyone elses ideas first

and if it is in fact 4 wheel module is there a specific seriel number to reinstall to replace the one that is no good.

no engine trouble lights have ever come on

Thanks for your time

Are you sure you are not just launching so hard or on such slippery surfaces so as to make the auto 4wd engage? It will kick in when it senses wheel slip. I rarely "floor it" with gas prices the way they are.

There is a speed sensor located in the rear differential that is used to engage the auto 4wd. My '02 was doing the same thing with no codes or warning lights so I replaced the sensor. It was less then $40 at the parts store and it solved my problem.

I believe you can pull that sensor and test the resistance in it to see if its bad, I will look to see if I can find the link I used when I was having the issue and post it.

Just a thought.

I know it goes into 4 wheel when it senses slip but the tires are not slipping at all
