I have an 02 Explorer with roughly 100,000 miles. About 6 months ago the check engine light came on shortly after I got the oil changed. I took it back there and no codes showed up. After looking on several explorer forums, I checked and replaced the EGR valve sensor after reading that it sometimes is the problem. At the same time, I also changed the spark plugs and it the CEL has been fine up until a couple of weeks ago. Previously, the door ajar chime will continue to go off after you put the key in the ignition and until you actually start the car. Also, the doors won't lock from the inside while driving. I'm sure everyone that owns an explorer knows that if it's working fine, the doors automatically lock after you start driving, however mine won't and even if I lock them, the unlock by themselves. I took it to autolab and they said it could possibly be a sensor in one of the doors that causes the door ajar and the locks.

Any suggestion or recommendations on these things would be greatly appreciated.

1. Check engine light
2. Door ajar and locks

spray wd-40 into door contacts. I had the same problem (same other problems you're having too!) and wd-40 did the trick.

Obviously, the CEL was off for a long time when you got it checked. I would expect at this mileage that it probably was an O2 sensor slow response code. These come and go for about a year before the CEL stays on.

Spraying the door locks is a regular routine, though I follow it with a thicker oil like transmission fluid. The Keyswitch also needs to be sprayed. I believe that is the one that keeps the doors from locking.
