The blower motor on my 2002 Explorer Sport will only work when I have the selector knob on the highest setting. Any idea what I need to do to correct this problem?
I just started researching this problem. Is this an easy fix/replacement or do I have to remove other components? I thought I saw somewhere that I might have to remove something to do with the 4x4.
im not sure on an 02 but on a 2nd gen under the air box theres a relay box. 2 of the relays are for your blower one controls the lower settings and one controls high. u can swap them out to see if its one of them.
Fixed the problem last weekend. The resistor is located under the blower motor on the passenger side firewall. Had to remove a couple things in the way but it took me 1 1/2 hrs total start to finish in 20 degree weather.

Yes. It cost me $15 at O'reilly's auto parts. Took out 1 bolt from quarter panel and removed the part (not sure what it's called) right in front of the blower motor and took out of the washer/radiator fluid reservoir and it was easy to get to the resistor. Spray your nuts and bolts with penetrating oil before removing so they don't strip out.
