According to the user manual the Key In Ignition Chime will sound when key is left in the ignition and the drivers door is opened.
My Explorer no longer does this. I do not have a door ajar warning light on and I have replaced the drivers door ajar switch. Plus I have checked the cable bundle from the drivers door to cabin for opens.
Now I turn to the Key In Ignition signal. How does this microcontroller know the key is inserted into the ignition? Is this by a separate micro switch in the steering column? I have removed the lower steering column cover and haven't located a switch. Is there a certain color wire I should look for? I will keep looking online for ideas.
Here is what ford part site shows. Nothing on which part senses when the key is inserted. Ignition Switch | FordUS
