02 Hard Start?

My wife drives our 02 XLT 4.6L V8 on a daily basis, 135,000miles. A month ago she told me the check engine light came on. I pulled the code P0401 and replaced the DPFE. I cleared the code and she drove it for a few weeks and all was good. Now she is saying that on occassion she has to put the pedal to the floor to get it started and it blows alot of smoke out the tail pipe in doing so. I have yet to witness this and the check engine light has not come back on. The vehicle is in the shop now for a complete tranny rebuild, doubt it's related.

What should be my next course of action to address the hard start? Thanks

It's been awhile since I've cleaned the throttle body. I've been running seafoam through the vehicle at different intervals. I'll take a look at it when I get the vehicle back from the tranny shop.

Sounds like a leaking fuel pressure regulator.
