I just purchased an 02 and when I got it home I noticed little cut like marks in the paint only about 2mm long ( 1/8 inch) all over the truck...obviously a factory defect in the paint...but will it get any worse. I'm not talking about the panels between the windows...I'm aware of that issue now also. Has anyone had this problem and seen these little cut (cracks) open and start to rust or are they just below the surface. You have to get up real close to see these and then you have to know what your looking for...anyone?

i recently bought a 04 Eddie, when i was in the search for a truck i looked at like 3 or 4 Limiteds and they all seem to have paint flaws. One of them had those crack marks you are talking about, another one had the paint bubbling up due to rust underneath it(and this was on the hood and body panels) and the other one i don't remember what was wrong. What i'm trying to say is it might be something they did w/ the "custom" 3 stage paint they used on the Limiteds

it is common on the 3rd gens, especially on the hood. The hood is aluminum and if not painted right away or prepared properly it will cause corrosion, I had the same problem with my 04 on the hood, It started off as a little bubble in the paint but when it flaked off I noticed a white powder underneath, (factory defect) my warranty covered it. the white corrosion is called dissimilar metal corrosion.

 Thanks for that little tidbit, I didn't know the hood was Al. When I bought mine a few weeks ago, it had two spots on the leading edge of the hood that were boogered up. The drivers side right at the spot near the middlw where the hood raises up was down to the metal and powered. The passenger side was about two inches from the corner and had bubbled. I used a wire wheel to take off all the loose dust and powder, but I thought it was galvanized. Silly me:confused: Then I masked it off and used some touch up spray, clear coated it, and Wa-la! Put on a front Bug Shield so nobody can see how bad I screwed the pooch.....:D
