Does anyone know how to remove the trim piece that allows access to remove the stock radio on a 2002 xlt 4dr?
looking to change out the single CD for the 6 disc
I have a 2001 Sport but I think they have pretty much the same dash setup. It is rather simple though. Two Screws at bottom of trim come out and dash and radio all pull out together. Now I have a slightly modified dash now but I think you can get the factory head unit out just by getting some Ford Factory Radio Tools and inserting them and pulling the radio out. I have heard of people using pieces of wire to accomplish this also. If you are installing a diffrent stock radio It should be real easy. Plug and Play. I have a RFX9300 MP3 Player and 6.4" LCD Screen in mine with a custom painted Trim peice to match the outside of my X. This took a little more work since I had to modify the trim panel also to make it look stock. I hope this helps you out a little.
Thanks for the advice. I have the radio out and put in a in dash 6-disc. Now I am getting a "disc error" and it is telling me "all slots full" when I try to load it. The player has never had a disc in it! AHHHHHH!!

Just a note for anyone finding this on a search. I have taken out many factory radios without ever using the real tool for the job. Cut and bend a piece of coathanger into a U where the two "arms" are the same length and long enough to let you use the bend as a handle once the ends are inserted into the two holes a side of the radio. Insert both U's with gentle force and try pulling the unit out, it will take a little force to get them to engage the HU properly. Sometimes it comes right out and sometimes it takes a little playing to get it, but it will come out if you adjust the U's enough.
