I have to replace the rear passengers side half shaft because of a bad boot. This was from a catastrophic bearing failure before I bought it. I replaced it with a DORMAN split boot that was a piece of junk. Now I have to replace the shaft because it let water in. Because there is no after market yet for this part, the only source is the dealer at $400.
My question is could I use the outside section of a front half shaft? Only the outside section is bad and it seems like there should be some commonality of parts. Rebuilt front shafts are only about $70 for earlier years. Its a thought. I will be searching the junkyards for a used one. This shaft is early production 01/02, dealer said there were three versions is any of you have one.
