02 sport trac, 4x4 switch no lights

I read this forum for the last hour or two, and thanks to a lot of good stickies and posts I can rebuild the electric transfer case shift motor and worm gear assemblies.

I logged on to help a friend with an 02 explorer sport trac who has no 4x4 with no lights on the dash switch. I gather that the 02 models were the beginning of the failing 4x4 control modules. This sounds like the culprit. I'll update this thread once I determine what the problem is.

For now, I'm going to search for control module testing. Maybe there's something here or on the web somewhere. The tech here is great compared to many of the online auto forums.

The verdict is in. I looked through all the wiring I could get to and ohmed and inspected the sport trac. I couldn't easily find any component failures on the 4x4 control module, but nothing else was wrong. They were able to get the module for about $140 locally and now the truck is back up and running in 2hi, 4hi and 4lo. Fun stuff. Big thanks to the tech on this forum. It saved my friends a considerable amount of money, I'm sure.
