I'm looking at getting an '02 Explorer XLT that needs a lot of work done. I’d like to know what you think would be a fair asking price and what you think would be a great deal. The specs are as follows:
104,800 miles
4.0L 4x4
Power Moonroof
Power Driver’s Seat
Towing Package
Running Boards
CD Player
The work that needs to be done is as follows:
All 4 wheel bearings need to be replaced
All brake pads and rotors need to be replaced
One of the covers that goes in the foglight opening is missing
The 2 front fender flares are scratched up
The piece of trim underneath the rear hatch glass is cracked in half
The vehicle has been smoked in and needs a good cleaning because of it (grease off windows, smell out of the vehicle, etc.)
It’s due for a 100k mile service (plugs, wires, tranny and transfer case fluid replaced)
Aside from the current problems, the vehicle has always been dealer maintained at the suggested service intervals. I’d be helping someone out and probably could get this pretty cheap. So if I could get this for $4k is it worth it? How about $3k or $2.5k? Thanks for any advice you can give.
Also, if anybody's in Baltimore and can recommend a good mechanic, let me know.
