2002 ford Explorer XLT V8
Hello, just bought a 02 XLT V8 at salvage auction. Looks like it was impounded in NYC in JUNE '15 and hasn't started since. I placed a new Wal-mart battery in her but she wont crank.

Some points to mention:
-I only have one key and it looks factory but ford emblem peeled off.
-No Key fobs

I turn the key and the "check gage" battery and Service Engine soon light comes on. There is oil and fuel in the truck.

The theft light goes off when key is in ON position.

I did the PATS reset where you leave key in for 10 mins with door open .

I hear a click coming from fuse box area. I also switched around the starter relays under hood but still no shot. I checked all the interior fuses.I am assuming its an electrical issue/ relay.

I ran a code scan but no errors. Probably since it has not worked in almost a year.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Probably the starter. Have you tried running a jumper wire from the battery to the starter solenoid input?

That did it. Unfortunately it didn't want to start because the car was in Drive even though the gear selector showed it was in Park. Hopefully it is the sloppy gear selector an easy fix?!

If it's just the gear indicator I wouldn't bother, just always count when you shift. 1 from park = R, 3 from park or 2 from R = Drive. Had a Aerostar like that long ago.
