03 EB Back Up Sensors

My ultrasonic back up systen does not work. Anyone know of a common problem or is this an expensive fix?

What is the symptom(s) of it not working? Does the sensor switch light up and/or is it set to off?

From what I've read, the system waits for a key on signal, shifter (automatic) in reverse.
In my case, before going to reverse the P-switch "off" light is not lit. When I go to reverse there's a slight beep (about 1/10 second) and the "off" light comes on. Pushing the switch does nothing and the "off" light stays lit until I shut the ignition off. Starting again it stays unlit until trying it again. The owners manual says this is a system failed mode.
