I have an 03 Explorer 4.6 and when the trans shifts from first to second the truck will fall on its face. I have had it to the Ford dealer and they have told me that the timing is retarding when it shifts. It is supposed to do it for 3 milliseconds, but it is doing it for about 5 seconds. It creates a dangerous situation when pulling into traffic. The problem started after we replaced the torque converter, but we have replaced it and the transmission without any results. The dealer replaced the ecm and flashed it to the latest version. I have pulled the intake and checked the knock sensor, the traction control is not causing the problem either. Fuel pressure is great as well. Anyone have any ideas? Your help is greatly appreciated. I am tearing my hair out on this one.:us:

Are there any codes being thrown?

Does it only happen on 1-2 shifts and at no other time?

Just so I'm understanding you correctly, you said it started when you replaced the torque converter, and then you later replaced the torque converter again as well as the transmission? What was the original issue that led you to change the torque converter?

Timing

Very long story, but here goes. There are no codes being thrown. The trans went out, we replaced it and had a vibration, took it back to the trans shop and they replaced the torque converter, still had a vibration, took it back, they installed a Ford torque converter and the vibration went away and the hesitation started. Since then we have installed a reman Ford transmission and another torque converter, still with no results. It only happens on the 1-2 shift. The Ford dealer has even checked it out and they can tell me what is happening but cannot offer a solution, we have tried a new ecm, with the most current reflash. Thanks for your input.:us:
