I'll be changing these out this weekend and was wondering if I'm going to be able to break the unit free from the knuckle without using any special tools like a slide hammer or hub puller??? Would a good old fashioned 3# sledge do the trick?

One of mine came off with just a few taps, but the other (bad side) required a puller. I got the puller using the free rental at Autozone.

EDIT: Also, use a thin metal scraper to break the sealant between the hub and knuckle. It will help with removal.

Did both fronts today and it took maybe two hours. The entire hub came right off with just a few taps with the 3# sledge.

Just a quick question on the axle nut. 184 ft-lbs of torque on these, did I read that right in the sticky help post above???
