I've read so many threads on this forum that have helped me with my Mountaineer these past 10 years. As of 9/9/13, it's dead. Blew the engine due to a faulty oil filter that clogged the pickup screen. By the time I got it cleaned up, it was too late.

Gonna have to junk it. It's too bad because it was a good vehicle. Loved the 4.6, even if it did drink too much.

Just expressing some appreciation.

Moving on to greener pastures......

:salute:

How many miles did you end up getting out of it?

142,500

Sad because I was hoping to get a couple more years out of it. Almost everything still works great (except cd changer and dvd player).

Oh well. She'll just end up in the junk yard, I imagine.

I know of an Explorer v8 needing a tranny!

What brand of oil filter were you running?

What brand of oil filter were you running?

Fram

I know. I never paid any attention to the brand of filter until I had a problem. Then I started reading all of the quality issues with them.

Serves me right for not doing more research. I've been using Fram it's whole life and never had any issues, therefore no need to research the brand.

:(
