Has anybody ever replaced the tensioner on an 03 ST 4.0? Difficult or easy?

Yes that the one. I had seen that video but its on an '02 and I wasn't sure if there is something about an '03 that makes it more difficult. The dealer told they had to remove the intake to get to it and I thought that was a bit over the top when the job only calls for 1.9 hours to replace both sides. Thanks.

No problem, I personally have only done the passenger side, I assumed the driver side would be less hassle as it is a bit easier to get to, however it is a different shape. I have access to a service manual for 05 fords and I could take a look at it this afternoon if you would like another data point.

Thanks for offer but dealer got it replaced and it didn't fix clattering noise that all hoped it would have. Now trying to decide what to do next. This is on a brand new rebuilt engine.

Sorry to hear the bad news...

Take a look at my thread below. I went through a similar situation. Ended up sinking some major $ into my engine, but it was a low mileage unit and I didn't want to risk a junkyard unit.

Best of luck man!

Thanks. I actually had read that yesterday while searching around. My engine came from a rebuilder and developed the clattering noise almost immediately. Have a thread going on it in here about going on 4 long blocks. Just gonna wait on rebuilder to say what to do next. Has blown their mind that the same thing has shown up in 2 engines in a row.

Tell them you want the new 3.0L diesel from the 1/2 ton Rams haha. That really is bad news between your 2 threads. I hate that the power train on these seem to fall apart from under the truck. With every click and rattle I hear on mine I get worried I'm on borrowed time with mine but nothing can replace this truck.
