is it the Torque Converter or Not. noise goes away then TC locks up , there isnt much info here about that

will it eventually go ? if its the TC why does it sound like that ?

Might be torque converter shudder. We dont frequently get torque converter shudder threads but its definitely not unheard of.

And be careful when you abbreviate to "TC" -- could also mean "transfer case" ;)

shudder , the noise sounds like ratteling when acclerating , i ran engine in not in gear no noise . in OD the noise dissapears , and when driving normal as its going through the gears the noise will stop a breif second while shifting, you think maybe a weak spring in the vale body

<The valve is called the torque converter shuttle valve> this was taken from a AL4D tranny , does the 03 tranny have the same thing ?

Mine's been doing the same thing? Anyone know what the heck the problem is? It's not really a shudder, it's more a rough sound that disappears once mine hits 40mph.

Bad news fellas'...mine was doing that...then the tranny puked...blew the servo out of the side of the case...not sure if they are connected but I replaced tranny and torque converter and noise went away...

Does anyone know what the is and where it comes from ?? im sure its the tranny but would it be a fix with out removing the tranny , i have 2 months left on my warrenty , 03 Explorer Limited V8 110k , hopefully it will crap out b4 the 2 months are up....

i bet something in the Valve Body OR Torque Converter is the culprit .

I had my tranny flushed and filled, the guy I have do all my work said it was one of the cleanest looking explorer tranny's in a long time. Anyone know if there is there something with the torque converter that might be the problem? And thus a cheaper fix? I'm getting tired of putting money into this thing.

i was reading on explorers with the trans rattle it was loose springs in Torque Converter and not to replace using a Ford part ( the noise would just return ) use a aftermarket part.. is that true ? in your opinion

Would it make any sense that mine makes considerably less noise after it's rained? It rained overnight and when I drove it this morning, it barely made the noise until I got to areas that were a little drier. Guess it'll have to go into the shop sometime soon.

It is the TQ.

A couple of weeks after I got it fixed, the trans fried.

I just love it.

If I didn't like it so much, I would have gotten rid of this mechanical nightmare a while ago.

But with my new tires, the thing handles great! Plus, I jsut don't trust any other suv not to have the same problems, it is all a conspiracy.

I will get rid of mine when they come out with an explorer size suv that gets 35mpg, and cost around $35k new, or cheaper slightly used.

TQ = Torque Comverter ? i dont hear the noise in overdrive , i just bought this truck from a local dealer with a 2 month 2000 mile warrenty Engine and Transmission ONLY not the rear end hmm i wonder why a high failure part i guess .
