04-05 V6 Spectre Intake Complete Kit

All-right...
Thanks for pointing that out miller. I already purchased MAF housing so I'm going to make it work some-how, some-way. There's always more than one solution to a problem. I'm wondering if the mounting for the MAFs are the same or close-enough that I could make it work.

Same number of pins, just a different harness design. Your gonna have to get the 02-03 MAF and splice the matching harness into your line if you want the factory look. This can be very easily accomplished, hardest part is gonna be finding the sensor and harness for a decent price. :D

Miller,

didi you buy the spectre vaccum adapter fittings ? and if so, do you remember what size fitting you used ?

cause basically at this point im just waiting on my MAF housing to come in the mail, which im hoping is tomorrow...

The spectre kit has one that will work. Should be the largest hole cutter

Caldwell, has this mod been completed yet? I'm hoping pics/videos will be included, as I want to follow the route you took.

Wow....sick stuff guys, i think ima just get the K&N one though if i ever get around too it.

Im no good with modding stuff that doesnt fit haha.

I havent been able to start the project, because im waiting on the MAF housing to come in the mail...

I'll wish you luck with finding one for an 04 Explorer. When you do let me know. I'm going to have to do some mods to another MAF to be able to use a 02-03 V6 Explorer's K&N Intake. This is why Caldwell is doing this spectre air intake, because there's no K&N availible.

Ohhhhh.....whoops, i thought that one linked K&N was for ours.

Welp.....im stuck haha

That sucks.....ill be tuned in.

Is there a link for the airbox mod mentioned though? Maybe i can do that for now

Airbox mod is really simple. I'll post the link up :wavey:CLICK ME:wavey:

I'll let you know how a K&N intake works out for my 05. I bought a MAF housing from an 03 X and i'm going to see if luck is on my side enough that I get the K&N with minimal modding (hopefully none) to the MAF. Like Miller said in a post above, I'll probably have to splice the wires in, which if it requires that, I'll do it. :)

Sick man...i might try this out tomorrow....learning everyday.

:salute:

Yeh def. keep us updated on the KnN

UPDATE

Finally got the MAF Housing in the mail today...

tonight im going to start, seeing how well the sensor and new housing work, then i will proceed hopefully tommorrow with drilling the vaccum line out

Well I got the sensor and housing and harness. I got the harness (off an 03 explorer) for free, so I now have all the parts. I now just need to get the intake and start splicing :)

still waiting to begin my install... Philadelphia area has been nothing but rain the last few days and hopefully everything should start clearing up for tommorrow... keep your fingers crossed...

Make sure to take a lot of pics during the install for an excellent write-up.

absolutley fella

finally nice enough out to start working on the project, when i finish up daywork @ the firehouse im going to start working on it. i figured out what 2 size drill bits im gonna need for the vaccum line...

first im going to try replicate nate's set up ( icecube ), for those that do not want to mess with the factory MAF, then i will work with the new MAF housing and report how well that works out...

so wish me luck fella's

Nate,

I have the K&N kit in my car and as much as I like it, I wish I knew about the Volant kit. Our engine compartment does get pretty warm, and after the engine warms up, my throttle response is diminished. I would recommend either going to Volant or making a top heat-resistant enclosure for the K&N. Also, another reason why I want to go Volant is because I found myself over-oiling my filter due to the amount of dust and fine dirt in my area. I'm in the process of designing a new filter partition.

We'll see how it works....

well before i start, i already know i have to go to autozone for some small coupler clamps... the factory clamp on the vaccum line is rediculousy tight, and will most likley break from the amount of force i had to use, just to get it loose...

i just want to get this done, and over with so you all can have a legit write up on how to build your own intake. so i can finally concentrate on building up my audio system a little bit...

be patient boys, i promise its coming lol

I actually am thinking about going with a MAC intake system. Its cheaper, but not sure how much better. The MAC, as far as I know, is made of metal. So I will probably heat wrap the intake.

Thermo Heat Wrap will help prevent heat soak if you go that route Nate...

if my intake ever gets done,im going to thermo wrap my intake also...

Can you send me a link on this? I'm looking at the MAC site and can't seem to find it. I don't see one for an 05.

That intake is actually for a 2002 to 2003 ford explorer V6. I have the 02-03 style MAF and harness that I will be splicing in whenever I buy my intake.
