hey guys i have a 04 explorer and the crank pulley keeps sliding back on the rubber that the pulley is molded to and the belt jumps off the pulley and rides on the rubber part. the first time it happened the pulley pushed back and tore the crank sensor so i replaced the sensor and it still wont start and everytime i turn the motor over the belt jumps off and the pulley slides back again. what do i do now?

thanks for anything.

When ever a balancer moves at all within itself, it is destroyed. The balancer is bad and has to be replaced.

If you have the 4.0 engine, then buy the aftermarket balancer, it is a little smaller for slowing the accessories. It's about $250 and you get more power. The 4.6 balancers should also have many choices for replacements.

that is what i thougt. but will it keep it from starting?

is the aftermarket balancer the only choice or can i get one cheeper?

You can use the stock balancer or the aftermarket, I just see the aftermarket piece as better for everything except power steering.

You can't start it unless the timing is right, and a bad balancer usually affects the timing so much it won't start. That is good because the engine will be ruined if it ran with an out of balance reciprocating assembly.
