04 ford explorer transfer case

I have a bw 4411-13 4L24-AE transfer case that is making noise my buddy has a bw 4411 1L24-BE mine is 2004 his is 2002 both are out of 4.0L both are button on dash.
My ? Is will his work in mine. What is the difference in the
1L24 and the 4L24

I know this is an old post but I am in the same exact situation. Did you ever try this out and see if it worked ok? My 1L24 transfer case has speed sensors and the 4L24 transfer case does not have speed sensors. They were just dangling on the explorer they came off of but it drove fine before he pulled it according to my buddy. Thanks
