I have a 2004 XLT V6 with a little over 70k. I recently had the whole transmission rebuilt by our local Aamco. It was driving perfect so I drove it home and took it on a long road trip the next day..around 400 miles. When I got to my final destination I realized my car was shaking while in idle. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. I know I could take it back to Aamco but I can't go without my car for another 2 weeks.:navajo:

I have an 04 explorer XLT with the 4.0 and am also having a rough idle issue. Ive been doing a lot of searching on the internet and havent come across a definate reason for the rough idle.

There is no change in rpm with the roughness, feels like a bad mount but all "look fine".

Heres what I know IS NOT causing the issue:
New plugs
New Wires
Fuel filter
ECU has been reprogrammed by the dealer

Through my searches, I have come across numerous POSSIBLE causes but no one has said for sure that the rough idle went away.
Here is what I found to be an issue:
Dirty/bad IAC (04s dont have one from what Ive read)
Intake manifold gaskets leaking
Bad harmonic balancer
Dirty/bad PCV valve

The truck runs fine, just has the annoying rough idle. Its not that bad, just feels a little stumbly. Doesnt matter if it is cold or warmed up, in park or in gear.

Im going to let it cool down for a while and check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold to see if the gaskets are leaking.

Any input from someone who has had this issue and resolved it would be great.

Thanks,
Thomas
04 XLT
