- 2004 Ford Explorer XLT
I just bought an 04 Explorer XLT a little over a month ago and have lately been having some problems with it shifting rough. Its an 04 XLT 2WD 4.0L with almost 68k on it. A couple weks after I got it, I took it to a transmission shop and had it flushed and a new filter and gasket installed, which seemed to help for a couple days. My problem mainly lies in 2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th, i think, but happens under medium acceleration. I have yet to floor it, but have had some heavier acceleration which made it worse. It kinda feels like it slips, then clunks into gear in a bit of a jerking action. Im hoping I dont have to get a new tranny already, but if thats the case, I need to start saving. Any other less expensive ideas as to what could be causing this? Thanks in advance!
