transmission shifting problems

i have a 94 explorer xlt and i got problems shifting automatically. for it to change gears i need to let off my gas pedal, then it shifts fine. i just replaced my modulator valve but it didnt help my situation. need some advice please.

It sounds like you have a broken band.

a broken band?? does that mean i have to replace my whole transmission or??

You have to remove & open the transmission in order to replace the bands.

You can have your transmission rebuilt by a local transmission shop normally around 1000 to 1500. A broken band is a common thing so you're not alone. You could always find a used transmission for cheaper but you would still risk having it fail as well. having a properly rebuilt one would be the best suggestion.
