Greetings all, I bought this 2005 Ford Explorer with a 4.0L SOHC V6 2WD (currently w/280K) for my youngest daughter to drive while in high school and for the last 4 years it has done rather well with only a few issue. A few weeks ago I drove it to get parts for my vehicle and everything was fine. My daughter gets in it the next day and she reported (and confirmed) that gas was coming out the tail pipe and it wouldn't start. So I went out and I tried to start it and it did start but what a noise! I quickly shut it off, called a mechanic friend I know for his opinion.
I than looked over my options, priced some new re-man's, junk yard pullouts... To keep a longer story short I pulled the motor and am in the beginning of a rebuild.
Anyone here have any knowledge on this subject that might be useful?
What brand of parts to buy and not buy?
Who to buy parts from?
What mods are worth doing?
I'm taking lots of pics and video!
