05 Explorer Problems

I've been trying to find a way to fix my heat in my '05 Ford Explorer. Every time I turn the heat on, my car makes a "popping" noise and blows cold air out of the vents. Is there a way to fix this or am I going to be forced to bring it to the mechanic? Also, is there a place where I can get a replacement reclining lever. The plastic broke off of the metal piece so that's the only piece I need. Help please? It's cold.
