I have a 2005 Explorer XLT with V6 that has 45K miles on it. I tow a tent trailer several times a year. The truck is dripping trans fluid where the bellhousing bolts to the engine. At the back of the engine oil pan the trans fluid is collecting and dripping down to the ground. I towed my tent trailer recently in hot weather up and down some hills. It appears as though the trans is overheating and flowing out of the overflow tube. I want to make this transmission last for at least 100K miles.
I need to change the trans fluid, filter, install a trans cooler and trans temp gauge.
What is the recommended brand of synthetic trans fluid?
Does any one have any how to pictures of a 2002 or new Explorer/Mountaineer temp gauge and cooler install here in the forum?
