2005 Explorer XLT Sport
I replaced the moonroof motor on my 2005 XLT Sport (not SportTrac) because my dad said it didn't work when he gave it to me (so I never even tried it before replacing the motor) and it opened all the way but will now only close about 3 inches. I've tried everything including jumpering the switch wiring harness but it does the same thing.
Does anyone know the initialization routine for an 05? I can only find tutorials for the wrong generation models, and aside from them being unclear and somewhat bumbling, none that I have tried have worked.
Or any other ideas?
Thanks.

Does the sunroof make any sounds at all when the switch is pressed either way?

Almost all sunroofs will become harder to open as they age, the moving parts get dirtier and that interferes with the movement. After 20 years it's common to find them barely able to move. The accessible parts should be cleaned as much as possible every few years, and lubricated carefully. I did that for my 91 Lincoln over ten years ago when it was moving slowly. That fixed it fully, but note it's hard to clean the parts, and you need to be ready for some over spray from what you use on it. I covered my interior with an old blanket, and used several rags, engine degreaser and brake cleaner, PB Blaster, and White Lithium grease in spray cans I had on hand. I spent a good hour easily doing that, I didn't rush and drown the parts with any spray product.

If the sunroof won't make any attempt to move(noise etc), then you'll probably have to take it apart again.

FYI, the 2005 sunroof is the same as the 95-01's, the main glass part swaps among them.
