Hi all,

First post here, I've been lurking awhile and really enjoying the forums. Even got the info to get the XMDirect working (correctly) from here.

I possibly have a transmission issue and wanted to get an internet diag before I went further. I'm getting a second opinion in the AM.

I have an '05 V6 4x4 explorer with 59K miles on it. It's down-shifted lazily and roughly since I bought it (with 23K miles on it 18 months ago.) I saw the flash update listed on the forum with a few mentions of help for that.

I went up to Longmont Ford for the flash (quoted $65.) They tell me that the shifting issues are due to too much pressure and that the program will do nothing. They're recommending a valve body/solenoid replacement to the tune of $1425 since evidently some valves are sticking.

Thoughts? Should I chuck the truck while it still runs and get something else? Spend the $1425? Drive it till it dies? Etc?

Thanks!
Adam

Try an independant shop, you may be able to get this done for 1/2 that.

Thanks! I have an appointment with wizard transmissions first thing in the morning.

The thing that makes me wonder whether this is the problem is the fact that I've never seen the O/D light flash. No codes either.

I wouldn't think a dealer would try to cheat me...

Its not that the dealers would necessarily try to cheat you, they just don't always find the most cost efficient fix, and their prices are pretty high for just about anything
