06 Explorer Problems

So, to give a little history, I own a 2006 Explorer XLT 4.0. Just had the entire cooling system replaced last week (including radiator, water pump, 2 hoses, thermostat, and thermostat housing). $1,200.00 Second radiator I have replaced. I am sitting with 168,x.. miles. 15 miles from shop, check engine light comes on. Stop to have it checked. Am told that spark plugs, and wires are a good place to start. And that then I should check coil pack. The car is having a hard time when going up hills. it's almost like it misses out. When you let out of gas and get back into it, it eases up some. Also, when idling, it is running pretty rough. You can hear the miss and the car is shaking. I have the wires and plugs to change them. Waiting on shop to get time to get it back in to change them. Now have noticed that there is no heat and a clicking sound in the dash. The air runs fine. Does this sound like a actuator problem?

Sound like everything that typically tears up on these vehicles is happening to mine all at once. I can't afford to put a whole lot into fixing everything after just paying the shop. And with 3 teenagers and being a single mom, I have to have my vehicle. Not to mention, I love my Explorer. Thanks for any advice or insight..

Check your connectors first!!!!

I replaced everything under the sun that has to do with ignition and that didn't help!!
Check these plugs and make sure wires are not exposed and not touching:

1. Plug that goes from the wire harness to the coil pack.
2. Plug that goes from the wire harness to the MAF
3. Plug that goes from the wire harness to the Throttle Position Sensor

#3 was the worst one on mine and all this started after I had work done at the mechanic. Probably since they needed to take things off and the plastic skin on all those wires is old and brittle after 180,000+ miles. I'm thinking when they pulled them off and put them back on, touching those wires tore off the protective plastic layer.

With a check engine light there will be stored trouble codes. Before guessing by changing parts, get DTC numbers and report back.

Going to get codes at O'Reillys as soon as I get off work. Will post them.

Ok, so no one in this cowpoke town has the machine to get me the codes. Did go to Advance and had them run it. He said a misfire from cylinder 2. Replaced spark plugs. Still running a little rough but not nearly as bad. Will be replacing wires as soon as time will allow. I am wondering if the fact that it sat at the shop, unmoved, for almost a month has anything to do with gas going stale or anything. Have filled it up and went through one tank and getting ready to fill it up again tomorrow. I'm thinking a fuel filter change would be a great idea.

Wouldnt hurt to change the fuel filter. It tends to starve injectors (the front I think) if it gets plugged and will cause a misfire code.
