I have done some very dumb things regarding vehicle maintenance and modding in my younger years. As I have grown older I have learned to research before buying parts and/or starting a repair. Sites like this one and YouTube videos are fantastic resources to get an idea as to where you should start. So don't let people get to you. Anyone who works on their own vehicles have made plenty of mistakes whether they admit it or no

Me to I still have lots to learn.
I'm only 31 and I didn't start learning about vehicles till I was 25

The key is to take your time
Don't buy cheap parts
And ASK QUESTIONS.
Don't worry soon you will be answering questions

I have done some very dumb things regarding vehicle maintenance and modding in my younger years. Heck, I can still make mistakes that have me smacking my forehead. Anyone who works on their own vehicles, who are not professional mechanics, have made plenty of mistakes whether they admit it or not.
exactly my point everything I know about vehicles is self taught and this is only my 2nd vehicle So I'm still pretty new when it comes to learning the tricks and what not be able to tell what I need I'm doing research but as I do it it's different it's hard to explain some ofit is different than what's in the manual and then it doesn't help that when I go to Canadian tire they know nothing

Its pretty easy.get the right tools and get the workshop manual...

Since iam retired military heavy equipment mechanic, ive learned to block almost a lot of the bullshit of the world wide web...

Be aware..and start to check from the factory sources first.

When I was your age there was no internet to take advantage of as a resource. This made my mistakes much more frequent and severe. As complicated as vehicles have become I can't see how any person can do their own repairs without using the internet as a resource. I know I couldn't.

Use only the OEM one

Over the years I have found ebay to be a great source to find older manuals and items that are no longer made or are hard to find.

I have the ford service manual CD
Found a torrent
All the pictures I post here are from that CD and @J_C s wiring diagrams file

Went to that website and downloaded the file but when opened it says the disc is no longer valid and to throw it away. Won't let me look at any of the manuals or wiring diagrams. What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure what site you're talking about
Did you burn the CD
Is there a read me file on the CD
Pm me ill try to help

Forscan does work with PATs. I don't know the specific procedure as I never came across IP swaps before. The software is loaded on to your laptop just like IDS. It works very similar to IDS. You definitely have some home work to do . We all started at the bottom. Keep plugging away at it. Don't lose patience.

Search e bay for the factory shop book for your truck. You will find it there and it will cost you. Not free.

The free and AKA 2006-2010 universal ebay digital shop manual versions are missing a lots of pages.the embedded pdf search app working like a crap.they are also mixing between sport trac, mounty and the explorer specs between production years.
Iwill never touch the digital copy again since ive undertorqued my wheel hubs nut by mistake because of the wrong digital copy reference.

Buy used good condition year and model specified hardcopy.

Learn how to use the CD

My CD is vehicle specific
1996-1999 ford explorer factory service manual
