Anyone install them in a 06+ explorer or mountaineer and if so and problems?Im gonna go with a 6000k kit. Did you get 35 or 55 watt? Should I get low beam only or both?

aftermarket hid's are illegal just to let you know.
id recomend installing some high watt bulbs first, like silverstar form sylvania, and see if your satisfied with that.

Try Sylvania if you want. Thats what I had first on my X. I purchased a HID kit and I am very pleased.

Well I want HIDs so I would like some info please.

well if your set on HID's, then id go with a low beam only kit, and probly 35 watt. that way your not blasting people with obnoxious amounts of light. then if you think you'll need more light, you could set up some high beam HID driving lights to use in scenarios where you need lots of light goin a long distance.
also a full projector housing is some thing to consider.

just my .02 cents.

Are hids just plug n play in the mountaineers?

hid is more than just a bulb, you need a harness that changes the amperage and voltage sent to the lights, since it uses far less power to illuminate the xenon gas, than it does to light a fillament, so if you get the right kit, and its good quality it should easyily plug in and work, but its much more than just a new bulb.

Have fun... I have bi-xenons for low/high and fog lights too. The low/high was a ***** because it kept complaining about the headlights being out on the DIC. The factory headlight wiring also sends pulses of power, not constant streams. Tried all sorts of antiflicker/error cancellors but the only way in the end was to build it ourselves. Wires in a cap.

I have a bi-xenon kit in my Mountaineer they are plug and play but you will get the stupid check bulb message in the message center I just hit the reset button. I dont have a problem with flickering or anything like that.

I am getting ready to install some HID's in my '10 escape. I had HID's in my old F-150 (back when they were "legal" and you could buy them from companies like Sylvania, KC, etc.) but since they've gone illegal you are left with mostly non-american manufacturers... but I absolutely loved my HID's and they were one of the things I've missed the most about my F-150 so I decided to at least try it and see... i got the hi/lo kit which I later realied I probably don't need, but whatever. I got it from DDM Tuning. Unfortunately they sent me the wrong harness (they sent me a harness for H4 bulbs, not H13 like the Escape has) so I am waiting for the right harness before installing.

Well I have HID lights on my 06 Mountaineer, and I never heard them being illegal. I drive in NYC,NJ,Penn, and even North Carolina, and I was never stopped. Many cars come with HID headlights these days. And if they were illegal, then those who own Mercedes Benz, and various other luxury cars and SUVs would be getting tickets on a regular basis!

They are only illegal if your vehicle didn't come with them originally. It is illegal to add them.

Well my Mountaineer never came with them, and I never had problems with police stopping me or giving me a ticket. Probably different laws in different states. I've owned my Mountaineer since it was brand new back in '06. I added the HID lights about 4 months later, and never had any stops or problems.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone actually getting a ticket for it, but it is possible... my guess is it is rarely enforced because cops for the most part have more important things to do than check to see if your headlights are OEM or aftermarket. There are a lot of laws out there that are rarely enforced... how often do you go 10 miles over but not get a ticket... all the time... you are still breaking the law, but for the most part, not that big of a deal...

Does anyone make a kit that is plug and play with no dashboard lights?

yes retro solutions has a kit that has all the resistors and everything needed plug and play for 06+ explorers. Just email them and they will respond. Thanks
