Hey guys just got my 06’ V6 xlt 4x4 explorer. I have noticed that it’s a little underpowered and was wondering if a cold air intake would help this. I have been able to find intakes for 03’ and 04’ V6’s but nothing for a 06’. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated, since I am really new to this. Thanks :)

Try Kurtz Kustom Motorsports. They make a setup for the 06 V8 and it looks and works great.

potential stupid question: Does this void factory warranty at all? Looks great! THX

Never a stupid question and never a warranty denied. Federal law prohibits a manufacturer from unjustly denying vehicle warranty. To clear up all specific details, check the great resources at SEMA

Does it actually improve performance or does it just make the truck sound more powerful?

An average gain of 9hp, 14ft/lbs torque and most everyone receives better mileage.

Thank you, that sounds like a pretty decent improvement. When I get my new Ex, I'll put the KKM unit on the "to do" mods list.

better mileage only after re-adjusting my right foot :D - but more fun on demand all the time ;)

One Question?

Does the KKM Intake require a tune? I'm not sure if SCT makes a 4.0 V6 tuner for "06 Explorers.

No tune required, straight bolt-on kit.

Thanks

Thanks Warren. I appreciate the response. I will look into the KKM.

Just wanted to let everyone know I just ordered my kit from Warren...Can't wait....

takes only a little time, got mine overseas to GE within 10 days : )

Says mine will be here on the 15th....Wooo hooo....I actually start vacation on the 15th.

boo hoo

The big bad tax man :thumbdwn: came and took away my plans for a new KKM for my X... looks like it will have to wait til next month, if that soon:(

What is that device that is located before the intake goes into the manifold ? It is on top of the intake - looks like a black washer bottle. It appears to be a baffle of some sort - no wires/tubes coming out of it. It sort of looks like a brake master cylinder. Was this installed to limit the air going into the engine ? Thanks

My understanding is that it is there to dissipate the air turbulence to make the stock intake more "silent." Although my stock intake does have a "turbo-like" whistle to it.... :D I'm in the market to get the KKM for my '07 V6 though... gotta work on the WAF... (wife-approval-factor)
