09 radiator trans lines

Hello -

New to the forum. My wife as an 09 4.0L has been pretty good to us. But last week sprung a leak in the radiator. I ordered a new one and put it in pretty strait forward except for the trans lines.

I could not get the quick connects to come off so i just un bolted the whole fitting from the old rad and bolted it up to the new one. Is this acceptable or will it lead to leaks from the spot? Its been to cold and rainy to really tell if it is holding at this point.

Second question - I lost the plastic cips for those connectors. Are they necessary?

Search radiator replacement in this forum, you are not the first to have a hard time getting the quick connect fittings off of the old radiator. The plastic clips are a good idea to have in place so that you don't have one accidently work itself out at some point (I have seen this happen before on other vehicles that didn't have the clips in place). The fittings do wear out over time so I think that you are okay for now but you may have a leak develop at the fittings in the long run that you might have to address.

I did a change on my 2008 about a month ago with the same procedure. I bought 2 different tools to remove the disconnect but nothing was working so I just unbolted and rebolted.

I have done this on 2 cars now with no problems.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did just read the thread in this forum. I guess my rad will fail in other ways before the fittings fail haha

Any one have a source or part number for the plastic clips?

Dorman is one aftermarket manufacturer that makes them so your local automotive parts store should have them.
